One exception is the Bronze Age comic book issue, Batman #237 by Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams. This backstory has been part of why Magneto is considered one of the best, deepest, and most tragic figures in Marvel Comics, especially when compared to more outright villainous characters such as the comparatively ridiculous Galactus or Loki. X-Men: Magneto 'Testament' also showed the harrowing horrors that the character experienced at the hands of the Nazis, further explaining his views and actions in the present day. This has been shown in many comic book stories and adaptations, namely X-Men and X-Men: First Class. Ever since Chris Claremont's iconic run on X-men comics, the character has had the backstory of being a survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp. There is perhaps no better example of this than Magneto. Many superhero and supervillain characters are Jewish, some of which are firmly planted in the tragedy of the Holocaust.
